Large mixing bowl

60.00

Soda fired porcelain slipped tall bowl.  Really a stunner

This large mixing bowl was fired in a soda kiln in San Jose, CA. It has bright orange flashing from the flashing slip and soda and a simple celadon liner. This shape was designed specifically for use as large mixing bowl. Its slightly more vertical surface keeps your hands clean and keeps all things being mixed in the bowl where it belongs.

Basically we fire a gas kiln to 2350 degrees.  The kiln has "soda" introduced to in the last hour to help effect the bare outside of the usually unglazed pots.  There are many ways to accomplish adding this soda and many recipes for the soda itself.  We added a sodium carbonate and whiting mixture, etc in dry chunks to the kiln and allowed it to vaporize. We then kiln then allowed the kiln to re-heat and get to temperature before shutting it down.
