This small, sexy cup was fired in a soda kiln in San Jose, CA. It has a subtle mottled texture from the soda and a beautiful rusty tomato liner. This shape was designed specifically for beers like IPA and stout but would be great for martinis, margaritas or any beverage you enjoy.
Basically we fire a gas kiln to 2350 degrees. The kiln has "soda" introduced to in the last hour to help effect the bare outside of the usually unglazed pots. There are many ways to accomplish adding this soda and many recipes for the soda itself. We added a sodium carbonate and whiting mixture, etc in dry chunks to the kiln and allowed it to vaporize. We then kiln then allowed the kiln to re-heat and get to temperature before shutting it down.
